Birds in Art 2026

On Friday 11th of September I was in Wisconsin U.S.A. I had travelled to the opening of this years Birds in Art exhibition at the Woodson Art Museum.
Every year the museum hosts this prestigious exhibition which attracts entries from around the world, of which only a hundred or so are selected.
In 2019 I was given the distinction of 'Master Artist' by the museum, an honour that allows me to enter the yearly show with the knowledge that my work will be accepted to hang alongside a wide variety of amazing bird art. This year I entered a new piece based on observations in Europe.
The drawing will be going on the Birds in Art tour during 2027 where a selection of this years pieces will be on display at the museums mentioned below. Hopefully some of you may be able to visit the show.

New to the website this week, a selection of colour pencil and graphite original drawings available for purchase. Some are very recent, others a little older; I will be adding new pieces as and when they are completed and become available.

Workshop in Kent

I recently taught a colour pencil workshop here in Kent for the Headcorn Art Group.
It's my 4th year with this group and this year we drew a wren on a gate valve.
A very enjoyable couple of days with a great group of artists. Looking forward to next year already!
Workshop in Worcestershire

Over the weekend of 2nd-3rd of May I hosted a workshop at Waseley Hills Country Park in Worcestershire, where a small group of 10 students drew a robin on a rusty gate.
The workshop focused on my techniques for drawing feathers on the first day, and on the Sunday we drew a section of a rusty gate. It is a subject I am often asked about, and it was nice to be able to pass on my take on how I draw rust. It was also duly noted that a lot of the participants found this the most enjoyable part of the workshop.
My thanks go to my dear friend Kat for overseeing the organisation and venue for what was an enjoyable weekend.
We are hoping to run another one around this time next year so watch this space!
Birds in Art 2019

I've just returned from a fantastic trip to Wisconsin.
It was here that the Leigh-Yawkey Woodson Art Museum held its 44th annual Birds in Art exhibition.
If you ever get a chance to go, you really should! It's a great place.

This year, I had the privilege of being named their Master Wildlife Artist for 2019.
It was such an incredible honour to be awarded such a prestigious title when surrounded by other wildlife artists of such incredible talent and skill.
