About the artist

Since childhood, Alan has drawn inspiration from the natural world, drawing and painting the birds and animals he sees around him.  After graduating from the Kent Institute of Art and Design, Alan concentrated on wildlife art.

He has won a number of prestigious accolades including the illustrious title of Master Wildlife Artist 2019 by the internationally-acclaimed Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum.

He was Birdwatch Magazine's Bird Artist of the Year (2000) and category winner for the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation's 2016 exhibition. His work has been selected several times for exhibition by The Society of Wildlife Artists.

He has been honoured to have a number of pieces selected for the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum's Birds in Art exhibition over the past few years.

In 2017, his first book was published. Bird Art by Alan Woollett is a sumptuous source of ideas and inspiration for pencil artists. In it, Alan shares techniques and shows how to create stunning artwork.

In the same year, he created an instructional online tutorial video for Blueprint (formerly Craftsy) in which he guided students through drawing a detailed, lifelike bullfinch using coloured pencils.
